Rules for Renting a Car

Rules for Renting a Car
Rental cars provide flexibility when you are away from home. But there are a few tools that are necessary in making sure you are able to rent a care in the United States.

Age Requirements

Renters must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Rental companies charge additional fees to renters under age 25.

Credit Cards

Rental car companies require a valid credit card, and they typically place a $100 hold when renting the car. The hold is released after the car is returned.

Debit Cards

Some rental companies allow renters to use debit cards at their airport locations. Debit card users are subject to a $350 deposit and may be required to present additional identification.

Car Insurance

Rental companies offer insurance for additional fees. Read your credit card's coverage policy for car rentals and check your car insurance policy to see if the rental is covered.

Second Drivers

Additional drivers are required to have a valid driver's license, be at least 21 years old and sign the rental agreement.

Car Return

Rentals are due back at a designated time, and additional hourly fees are charged if the car is returned late.
