United Airlines Baggage Rules
United Airlines is a major U.S. carrier with numerous flights to domestic and international destinations. Before traveling with United, it's important to know its baggage policies in order ensure a smooth check-in process.

Checked Bags

Checked bags should weigh less than 50 lbs. and should not exceed 62 linear inches, or they will be subject to additional fees.

Domestic Fees

Online checked bags are $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second bag. Airport checked bag fees are $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag.

International Fees

The first checked bag is free. For tickets purchased as of Sept. 30, 2009, the second bag is $45 if paid online and $50 if paid at the airport.

Carry-on Bags

Travelers are allowed one carry-on bag not more than 45 linear inches and one personal item: laptop computer, purse and briefcase. Carry-on bags must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat, or they will be checked in.

Additional Requirements

All checked bags must display an external tag that bears the name of the traveler who checked it in. Travelers should arrive at the airport 90 minutes before their flight to check-in.
