Not Worth the Cost
We love our Kid Comfort II and use it weekly for everything from trail hiking to festivals. The sun shade only works when the sun is at 12o'clock or behind you. Other than that little man unfortunately gets plenty of sun. The cost is high for what it doesn't do. As we live in Texas, we haven't really had a need for the rain cover.

Good, not great
Sun coverThe sun shade part is very good at blocking overhead light but is not close enough to the passenger's head to block angled light, especially for younger passengers. As the child grows it is more effective, but still not very good at frontal light. It's very easy to install/remove.Rain coverNote that this doesn't cover the pack, Deuter makes a separate cover that covers the pack as well. This cover is great at blocking rain from light mist to heavy downpour, but only from the shoulders up. It's very easy to install/remove over top of the sun shade. My biggest complaint about the kit here is that we haven't been able to find a good place to store it on the backpack when it's not installed. We didn't buy the Kid Comfort III because we didn't like the permanently raised part behind the child's head, but using this cover seems to offer us no other choice but to leave it installed all the time.
