Black Diamond Epic 45 Pack

The Black Diamond Epic 45 pack is a durable ice cragger with a suspension that offers great range of motion and freedom of movement. Lightweight reACTIV™ XP suspension offers great mobility, support and stability for scrambling and climbing. Fixed shoulder straps and vented, thermoformed back panel offer breathable comfort. Removable, padded hipbelt with fixed 38mm webbing belt disperses load weight comfortably around your hips. Top-loading main compartment features removable floating top lid and a tuck-away rope strap. Hydration-compatible design features a reservoir sleeve and drink tube exit port (reservoir sold separately). Ice tool PickPockets™, 3-point haul system and welded crampon patch accommodate climbing gear; side compression straps take up extra volume and stabilize your load. Black Diamond Epic 45 pack is made of tough ripstop nylon.

Great pack, one minor issue

Did an overnight snow route in Colorado with this pack. Very comfortable and effective. The swivel hip-belt is a very nice touch. The overall design of the pack distributes a decently heavy load nicely. You can pack this thing to the gills and not have to worry about over-doing it. Durable and user friendly, yet simple without too many bells and whistles. Really liked the ax holders. Would have given this pack 5 stars, but the zipper on the top of the lid would not zip closed - faulty zipper design. Going back to try and find one of these packs without this defect. I highly recommend this pack for alpine/snow climbs and general mountaineering, BUT do NOT order online. Go to the store and make sure that all of the zippers work properly.
