Small, but effective
I purchased this for a 93 mile canoe trip. Wanted to pack as little as possible, but spare myself from the bugs. I usually camp on island beaches and often times just use a bivy sack. The bugs were horrible this year, so I elected to use a small tent.Tent is very easy to set up and only takes minutes. Also easy to take down and packs small. And unlike some other tents, it was not hard repacking into the supplied carrying sack after each use. Packed size is as listed in the specs. The tent is small. I am about 5'10" and had plenty of length. Even a little room on each side of my sleeping pad to put the essentials. Can't speak for the rain fly or vestibule since the weather was clear...so I never used it. The top is well-ventilated, and gave me a good view of the stars each night. Aside for lying down, there is not a lot of room to do anything more....but that is not why I bought this tent. If you are looking for something that packs small and keeps you away from the bugs and elements, then this is your tent. If you want more room to store things

Nice light tent, but a bit stuffy air.
My backpacking trips typically bring me to a cave. Consequently I am carrying heavy loads, my caving gear along with the typical backpacking gear. Recently, I have been trying to replace my older backpacking gear with some modern, light weight equipment. The ALPS Mountaineering one man tent met the criteria of being half the weight of my old tent. It was easy to set up and seemed well built and robust. Although it was a one man tent, it provided me with exactly enough room. My only complaint was the poor ventilation in the tent. In spite of the an interesting pop-up vent in the roof of the fly, the ciruculation was poor. I couldn't create much space between the fly and the tent walls. There wasn't much room for air to come in below the edge of the fly. No matter how I staked the fly-cords, it just didn't seem to really tension the fly adequately. The result was a warm tent, quite comfortable at night. But if the weather was wet, I'd be concerned about condensation. I have another ALPS Mountaineering tent, a large family/car-ca
