easy to brake
Once I used on the slope, the joint was broken. It was not so steep, but this cannot support my weight. My weight is 67kg. Ummmm.

Needs some reengineering
The chair was great until I experienced the same problem with the leg tube collapsing mentioned by other reviewers. It only lasted one week. Fortunately, I tested it in my living room. I weigh 115 so it was not a weight capacity issue. I loved the weight, size, and comfort but I returned it to the store. If Alite can figure out how to solve the collapsing leg problem, I will buy another one.

Great Outdoor Seat
This is the most comfortable camp chair I have ever used. It is great for sitting on the ground without being on the ground. There is an issue with the peg connectors on the legs as others have mentioned. But I love this chair so much I took the first one back when it failed and got another just like it.[Rev

Faulty
Of all the pros this chair has: super light weight, small package (great for low volume motorcycle packing, great for kayaking, hiking, climbing, basically anything outdoorsey which doesn't need a car), a chair without a broken leg is no good to anyone. After one evening of sitting by the fir

Step up from the Butterfly
Bought 2 of these prior to a 3-week motorcycle trip. Wanted something light, compact and practical. We already have 2 Butterfly chairs, but I wanted something easier to use. Considered the Mantis, which sits higher, but I liked the comfort and ease of the Mayfly. My boyfriend thought the Mantis would be better because it sits higher off the ground. I did not buy one of those so he brought his Butterfly on the trip. After the trip, he did not let me return the 2nd Mayfly so I think I won him over once he saw the ease of getting in and out of it. Would have liked to get them in blue & orange, but they were out so we have black. Great chair, very comfortable.

Get the REI chair
I got for a several day backpacking trip and got based on it being the lightest in of the group of competitors. In the store, it was as comfortable as the others and seemed fine.I did not have issues with the product falling apart. In fact, I'd say it held

A must have for anyone with a bad back..
After a day of backpacking in the high country it is nice to have a comfortable chair to rest your back. It is light enough to carry and small enough to fit in my water bottle pocket on my Gregory pack..

Not Ready for Prime Time
Okay, first the pro's: lightweight, comfortable, versatile (can take the stabilizer bar off/on depending on whether you want to rock or sit). Unfortunately, these were all outweighed by the cons. I just returned from Philmont where 4 of these chairs were used. One by one, all 4 broke down in a non-repairable manner. The joints of the outer poles connect via smaller internal poles which eventually slipped into the outer poles and would not allow a joint connection. We were unable to fix them even with a full Leatherman with pliers. Mine was one of the last to go as I am very careful with my gear but it broke down eventually like all the rest. I liked the chair a lot when it was working but returned to REI whe

Comfy, Yes. Durable? Heck No.
First off, I have never posted a review for a product after buying many, many REI products. But after such a disappointing experience with this product, I was compelled to warn would-be buyers. I was more than excited when I first opened this chair. I thought it would be the perfect chair. It is comfortable, light and got to say kind of sexy looking.I just got back from a 4-day trek on the John Muir Trail and by the end of the trip, this chair was a hunk of garbage I had to lug around on my back. There are 2 rubber pegs at the bottom-rear of the chair that allows you lounge backwards so you can relax and stare up at the stars – my favorite feature. Well, after the first use, one of these pegs fell off and I immediately had to constantly pick it up and place it back on. And the connection was so flimsy; I just knew it would not stay on. Sure enough by the second day, I forgot to look for it when I stood up and I lost the rubber peg. From that point on the chair fell apart. Without the rubber peg, dirt and rocks began to get lodged into the aluminum poles. Eac

As Advertised
I purchased this to use at Philmont Scout Ranch this summer. It was easy to set up, comfortable and easy to disassemble. It was a little closer to the ground than it's competition which made it a little harder to get out of after a 10 mile day of backpacking.

Do not buy this chair
Broke the first time my 170 lbs son sat in it. Inner locking pole keep slipping into itself. I would have love it, but ended up completely disappointed in it, it was very frustrating, after a 10 Miles hike on the first day

Great Chair, but needs review.
This is an awesome chair that needs a minor design change to make it durable. I bought one and within one evening of use in the living room just testing it out the tube piece that sticks out making it possible for the tent pole to slide over it slid into the corresponding pole rendering the chair unusable. I took it

Most expensive small chair I've bought
I like that the legs have bars that support the feet. Other models have 4 stick legs that drive in to the ground easily.Just hope the lightweight metal holds up for the high price paid. Have to assemble for each use.

Lightweight Backpacking Chair
Taking this chair to Philmont - yes, it's adding an extra pound, but after a long day on the trail, I'd rather sit in this than on a log or in the dirt. You can balance and rock like the Monarch, or add the front legs and just relax. It's very comfortable, especially for a packable chair. I

Better feet?
Have not used in dirt yet, but I assume the rounded bar legs are better than other models with straight "stick" legs. Did I say "expensive"?

Awesome chair!
Really great chair. Very easy to setup. I love that it gives me the option to rock or be stable. I've used it outdoors, but I haven't taken it backpacking yet. Great buy!

fair but not well made
Everything was ok but one of the supports wasn't made well. A rod kept slipping into its outer sleeve which prevented it from staying in the pocket of the nylon seat. Every time I assembled the chair the rod had to be readjusted which is not an easy thing to do without pliers.

Love the design - durability not so much
After about 5 hours of use the inner aluminum poles starting pushing inward, leaving the chair unusable for its first backpacking trip. I do love the chair, so I will try epoxy to weld the joints together. Note to manufacturer: This model has a defect in assembly. The inner aluminum tubes need to be welded or glued with epoxy to keep the tubes from moving when weight is applied. FYI - I am 160 lbs. Otherwise, I love the chair.

Great Idea, Bad Engineering
Broke after using it for a total of a few hours, and not in the field. Excited about the chair when I found it, but after inspection following unit failure, I found the chair to be poorly engineered. The aluminum support rods have cylindrical inserts in the ends of them, and these are what set into the main housing. After light use, not in the field mind you, one of these inserts got pressed upwards into the rod, such that there was a minimal amount of material actually inserted into the housi

Alite....Yes please
The Alite Mayfly is the offspring of the Alite Monarch and the Mantis. Super comfy, great support, very lightweight and easy to pack. I was big fan of the Monarch besides the fact that you need to balance (or learn to sit just right so you don't lose your b

Excellent Choice for backpacking...
I had originally purchased the REI Flexlite Chair and returned it after my first experience with it. The Flexlite's legs would sink into the soft ground making the chair unstable and unusable during an already miserable rainy two-night excursion. I purchased the Alite Mayfly and I could not be happier, no problems with backcountry soft ground campsites! It takes a little practice getting in and out of it being so close to the ground but that's a non-issue even for my 54 year old bones... I set my stove on the ground next to the chair and relax during the meal process. Two thumbs up to the Mayfly!
