Good boot, but get these REI laces too
This is a follow-up review. These boots are nice and are advertised to be water-proof. But why do they come with cotton laces that will eventually wear down and break? This is why I rate these 4-stars, and not 5.If you buy these boots (which I do recommend), add REI Waterproof Round Hiker Laces in black and 48 inches long. They match in length and color scheme and are far superior to the "city-slicker" laces that come with the boot.

Quick break in. Comfortable from Day 1.
Light boot made with quality material; comfortable right out of the box. I have high instep and wider foot - still got a great fit. I never heard of Ahnu before and I usually go for boots with Vibram and Goretex. But I'm m

Comfortable but need improving
I bought these to replace my Keen Targhee midsize boot which I wore out after two seasons of beating them to death. The positives are they are ultra lightweight, extremely comfortable, plenty of toe room and excellent traction. Their downfall is

Poor padding around ankle
I got these boots to replace my Merrel Moab mid boots that didn't offer enough support in the soles. These did the job of support and I had good traction and room in the footbed, but the metal lace hoops around the ankle DUG into both of my ankles, and I had serious soreness after just one day and worse after 3. I tried to re-adjust the lacing, tounge, etc to get a better fit and less pain to no avail. I just returned to them, Thanks REI for your ability to work with your members!

Good Boots, but why the city-folk laces?
Overall, the boots look and fit well. Perfect for upcoming Denver winter weather. But if this is a light hiking boot, why did they go with cotton fabric laces? Now I have to go swap them out with some nylon laces so they don't fall apart in the future. To quote the Ace Ventura movie, "Laces Out!"

Comfortable leather! Great boot
I bought these last year in prep to go to Philmont for Scouts on a 12 day backpacking trip. We had several treks through the AT to break these in well. I was initially worried about the lower ankle support but I also had an issue with a tendon on one ankle that would constantly nag me with the wrong touch of the boot. These boots have super soft leather on the ins

leaks badly
These boots looked so great that I fell in love with them on a first sight. They are also light and very comfortable. No break-in required. My love lasted until a 5km hike in the rain. The left boot leaked pretty bad. This is IMHO, quite unacceptable in a boot advertised as waterproof.

Decent Boot for Light Hiking
I didn't actually purchase these boots. I tried them on at the local REI and found them quite comfortable. However, I needed boots for backpacking and the Ahnu Elkridge Mid just didn't seem to have adequate ankle support. They would probably be fine for light hiking but even the salesman said he wouldn't recommend these boots for backpacking with more than a 30lb pack. I ended up with the Lowa Ze

Dry and Comfortable
These boots are very comfortable, but I wanted to test how well they keep out moisture, so I went for a long hike in a forest preserve while it was raining. Terrain was mostly grassy and muddy paths, but I also veered into the under-forest and through an area of clear cut. In very little time I was soaked, but I was amazed that my feet were completely dry and warm. I've never had a boot that repelle

significant heat buildup in boot
I had high hopes for these boots to provide more support than the Merrill ventilator series. I wore a different pair of socks each time but unfortunately the heat buildup in the boot was significant and, after only 30 min., uncomfortable. I couldn't wait t

AWESOME
Disclaimer. I have only worn for about 24 hours straight for day to day activities. To start I tried on 7 pairs of boots. I was aiming for a low-mid height weekend warrior. I walked around in all of them for a while in the store. These boots, from the moment I put them on, were beyond comfortable. The interior is so smooth and on an even plain that there are not hot spots, etc. I have been wearing them for the past day+ and can say I am definitely happy and after I hit a trail for the weekend I will update. I think, if performance and comfort continue, I will be buying another pair for backup...As usual REI staff was there to help me make a decision and answer my questions.

Initial experience
Be patient when first wearing. I found the boots became quite comfortable after an hour despite some clear pressure points in first few minutes. Lacing system is fast, but doesn't allow a tailored cinch. Laces are decent and stay tied.

Good performance
i am very satisfied with the boot. Comfortable, very light weight, waterproof going through shallow puddles. The best light hiking boot i ever owned.I need to stop and tie up the boot at times.
