About Coleman Camp Kitchens

About Coleman Camp Kitchens
Camp chefs are presented with a particularly challenging situation during a trip away from home. A kitchen is an amenity that most chefs and cooks are used to, but can't always have present. Coleman camp kitchens allow a chef some of the basic features of a normal kitchen, but without the weight and size.

Significance

Coleman camp kitchens are significant because they provide camp chefs and cooks a way to prepare food in a kitchen environment away from home. A Coleman camp kitchen is also lighter and smaller than normal kitchen amenities, so they can be taken to remote locations easier than many smaller appliances can be carried. Because of this, camp kitchens offer a convenient way to cook and bake at places other than your own home kitchen.

Size

Camp kitchens can vary in size depending on how it will be used. The largest camp kitchen, the Coleman Outfitter Camp Kitchen, offer a food preparation and cooking space 72.5 inches long, 22 inches wide and 50 inches tall. Camp kitchens like this can save your back and provide cooking areas for larger groups when needed. Smaller groups or trips may require smaller camp kitchens. Coleman makes kitchens as small as 56 inches long and 24 inches wide to accommodate these needs.

Features

Most Coleman camp kitchens come standard with features that you find in a home kitchen. A sink, hangers for utensils and a food-preparation area are all built into the camp kitchen. Another attached table, usually to the right of the kitchen area, is for a camp stove or oven. Camp kitchens can also fold into a compact carrying case, which allows you to take them to remote locations such as campsites and picnicking areas. A camp kitchen usually has fold-out shelves to store food items and cooking utensils.

Considerations

Before you purchase a camp kitchen, consider where and how you will be using it. If you are using it for Independence Day cookouts, a smaller kitchen will be sufficient because you won't be using it for extended periods of time. If you are using a camp kitchen for week-long camping trips, then a larger unit will most likely suit your needs better because if will be more permanent and provide you with additional preparation space necessary to cook for you and your fellow campers.

Availability

Coleman camp kitchens can be bought online and in some camping stores. Amazon.com and Coleman.com offer Coleman's line of camp kitchens. Prices will vary depending on which unit you buy, but most cost between $90 to $220 (2009 prices).
